HELLO! Who is as excited to be here as I am?! 2020 marks the 5th annual August, that I’ve hosted this challenge. What a time to self reflect! What #BEinyourskin means to me is living unapologetically in your body today. Living your best life now, whatever that looks like for you.
This year, we are focusing on weekly themes, daily activities, resources and tools.
Week One: Reflect
My mom said to me once, “how long are you going to tell yourself that story”. It took me aback and it really struck me. What stories am I telling myself? What stories am I telling myself that aren’t even about me? What stories did I take on from someone else and allow to have so much power over me?
I grew up in a family full of women. There was an education on body image + womanhood that I honestly inherited. Those believes, those thoughts, those stories, had nothing to do with me and took years to unlearn, along with some amazing gifts.
We are consistently taking in messaging meant to effect our self worth, mostly to sell products to us. I’m wanting us to dig deeper, actively choosing not to internalize negative messaging.
So I ask you this week, to reflect on what stories make up your self image? Are they empowering you or holding you back?
Journal Entry:
What stories make up your body image?
Activities:
– Look at Social Media
Who are you following on social media? What are you learning from these accounts? Unfollow any account that doesn’t inspire you, empower you or make you feel positively.
– Look in the mirror
Look at your body in the mirror, what do you see? Name three physical things you love about your body.
-Look at your history
What was the first time you felt insecure about your body? Was that a good or bad thing? What is the root of your insecurities?
-Look at your family?
What was the conversation about body image, when you were growing up? What is your mother’s relationship with her body? What is your grandmother’s relationship with her body?
